Fabulous Facts & Figures

At times, the grandeur of some biblical events lose their wonder as we fail to look deeply into the text. For instance, the exodus of the children of Israel from Egyptian bondage is known by most all of us, but are we aware of the magnitude of this event? Have we ever taken time to ponder the miraculous nature of this exodus? If not, think on these things.
One of the largest mathematical miracles in the world was exodus of Moses and the children of Israel into the desert. Once they left Egypt, what was God going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 3 to 3 1/2 million people would require a lot of food.
According to the Quarter Master General of the U.S. Army, it is reported that Moses would have had to have 1,500 tons of food each day to sustain that many people. Did you realize that to bring that much food each day would require two freight trains each a mile long?
Besides, you must also remember that they were out in the desert, and they would have had to have firewood to use in cooking the food. This would take 4,000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains each a mile long, for just one day. And just think, they were forty years in this wilderness.
Oh yes, they would also have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would have taken 11,000,000 gallons each day, and a freight train with tank cars, 1,800 miles long just to bring the water. They had no lakes and only a few wells. How were they to get water? And then another thing: They had to get across the Red Sea in one night. Now, if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get across. So, there had to be a pace in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide, so that they could walk 5,000 abreast to get over in one night.
But then another problem. Every time they camped at the end of one day, a campground 2/3 the size of the state of Rhode Island, or a total of 750 square miles, was needed. This comprises an area 25 miles wide and 130 miles long. Just think of it! This space just for nightly camping. Do you think Moses figures all this out before he left? I think not!
You see, Moses believed God, and God was going to take care of these things for him.
Let’s take courage, we have the same God. We think our problems are so big. Remember what God can do! Just team up with God, and your problems will be in his care. Let him run your life, and as the song says, “He will take care of you.”
